How to fix a cracked iPhone or iPad screen

Smashing the screen on your iPhone (or iPad or iPod, for that matter) is sadly a common issue. We've all been there: you drop your beloved phone or tablet, reach down and pick it up - of course it landed screen down - and inspect the damage, only to have your worst fears confirmed. The screen is shattered. Reference

Well, chin up. It's bad, but it's not disastrous. You have options. In this article we round up the five best ways of repairing a damaged iPhone or iPad display, and explain the pros and cons of each. We'll have that screen repaired in no time, don't you worry.

The tips in this article, by the way, are all about mending iPhone displays that are visibly broken. If your iPhone's screen just isn't working or responding to your touch, try How to fix a frozen iPhone screen. If the glass back of your iPhone 8 has broken, on the other hand, our advice will be broadly similar but it will be more expensive than getting the screen fixed, with an excess fee of £79/$99 even if you've got AppleCare+.

Get Apple to repair the screen
Apple will come to the rescue and repair your cracked screen, but it won't do this for free, even if you're still in the warranty period, as accidental damage isn't covered by the standard warranty.

If you went the extra mile and paid for AppleCare+ - read about AppleCare+ for iPhone here, and AppleCare+ for iPad here - then the cost won't be too high. AppleCare+ includes repairs for up to two cases of accidental damage. But there's still an excess fee. Users need to pay £25/$29 to fix their iPhone display no matter what model it is, with all other repairs costing a flat rate of £79/$99.

Assuming you haven't got AppleCare+, the cost of your screen repair will be much higher - particularly in the case of the iPhone X. It's best to get in touch with Apple and see what they'd charge in your case, but the company quotes the following prices for screen repairs. (Note that other damage will carry higher fees - around twice as much. See here for more details.)

iPhone X: £286.44/$279
iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus: £176.44/$169
iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus: £156.44/$149
iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: £136.44/$129
Here are the non-AppleCare costs for iPad screen repairs:

iPad mini, iPad mini 2: £196.44/$199
iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4: £296.44/$299
iPad 2, iPad Air, iPad 9.7in (2017): £246.44/$249
iPad Air 2, iPad 3, iPad 4: £296.44/$299
iPad Pro 9.7in: £356.44/$379
iPad Pro 10.5in: £426.44/$449
iPad Pro 12.9in (2015), iPad Pro 12.9in (2017): £566.44/$599
How to fix & repair a cracked iPad or iPhone screen
If this appeals you can read about Apple's policies on iPhone screen repairs here, and on iPad screen repairs here, but many of us will be looking for a cheaper repair than this. So, what other options are available?

Go to a high-street retailer
The high street. The one-stop shop for all your needs - including iPhone or iPad screen repairs.

The high street is where most of us will go when we break our phone or tablet screen because, generally speaking, people like the personal touch, which is something you tend not to get when using online repair services. Another point for the 'high street vs online' argument is that if anything goes wrong with a high-street repair then you know where to go to complain (unlike with most online services).

While we recommend some high street repair shops, you should be aware that there have been cases of iPhones that have been repaired with certain replacement screens becoming unresponsive to touch. This issue appears to have been exacerbated by an update to iOS - iOS 11.3 is thought to have rendered some iPhone 8 models that were repaired with non-Apple displays unresponsive to touch.

Apparently, some people who have had the screen on their iPhone replaced are experiencing issues since updating their iPhone to iOS 11.3. We cover this issue in more detail here: iOS 11 problems and fixes.

There are also reports that iOS 11.3 is also causing problems with some genuine Apple displays that have been used to repair broken iPhones.

According to an Engadget report, iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X models that have been repaired with official Apple display, are unable to adjust brightness automatically. This problem is actually affecting devices running iOS 11.1, iOS 11.2, and iOS 11.3, according to that report.

Companies who perform third-party repairs are suspicious that Apple is disabling functionality on purpose to stop third-party repairs.

Aakshay Kripalani, CEO of Injured Gadgets, a repair shop, told Motherboard: "Customers are annoyed and it seems like Apple is doing this to prevent customers from doing 3rd party repair." The right-to-repair using a third-party is protected by law.

Team Knowhow (Carphone Warehouse)
At Macworld UK we highly recommend Team Knowhow (found within certain Carphone Warehouse and Currys PC World stores). It offers Apple certified screen repairs, a rarity on the UK high street. This means it's preferable to cheaper options like iSmash as repairs with Team Knowhow don't void your Apple warranty.

Team Know how sends your iPhone direct to Apple, yet prices also undercut Apple's themselves, so you're getting a repair for cheaper from Apple itself. The company only uses genuine Apple parts, meaning your iPhone warranty won't become void by using the service, and it provides all customers with a 90-day guarantee following any repairs.

The company offers standard screen replacements from £89, but that's not all - as a fully approved iPhone repair provider, Team Know how can carry out any warranty repairs just like the Apple Store, completely free of charge.

We tested the service with a smashed iPhone 7 Plus and received excellent same-day service - it was ready in under three hours, and you drop off and pick up yourself.

The catch? It's only available in a handful of stores at this time. Check if there's one near you here. Those interested should head straight into a store, no appointment required.

iSmash
iSmash has made a name for itself as a quick, accessible and cheap iPhone repair service. And from our personal experience, it does an adequate job. But you should be aware that using the service voids Apple warranty, and they don't use Apple-approved parts.

We recommend Team Knowhow - it's more expensive but you have peace of mind.

Timpsons
High-street chain Timpsons has noticed the growing demand for a local repair service and have added screen repair services at a number of stores - last year they told us that 412 of their 1,409 stores offer this service. To avoid disappointment we strongly recommend either calling your local branch to see if they can help, or using the firm's store locator with the filter set to 'Phone and Tablet Repairs'.

This should be a far cheaper option than Apple. We've been quoted a pretty reasonable £49.99 for older iPhone models, rising to around £80-90 for newer phones; the service starts at £39.99. Speak to Timpsons and get a quote for your device. The firm says it can repair screens on all models of iPhone and iPad.

Screen repairs on iPhones should be carried out the same day, but Timpsons warns that tablet repairs take longer: seven days. In both cases there may be additional delays if the staff have to order in a part, but we imagine that Apple devices are sufficiently mainstream that this would be unusual.

If all this sounds good, read about Timpsons' screen repair services here.

Down sides of high-street screen repairs
High-street retailers are an obvious option, and Timpsons is a well-known brand, but what of the lesser known high-street shops promising to fix your iPhone? Using a high-street retailer could be a risky process because when you leave the store, you don't know who's handling your iPhone or what they're doing to it.

People like to keep their private lives private - and what is at the centre of most people's lives? Smartphones. From email to texts to photos, our digital world revolves primarily around smartphones. When you take your iPhone to a high-street retailer, you're handing over your central hub, so to speak, and there's a small risk that your data could be browsed and even remotely stored. A lack of security regulation in smaller, independent shops could be risky, especially for business users.

Replacement screen parts are fairly easy to come across and can be bought fairly cheaply online. The issue with this is that cheap screens and parts seem to have a tendency to break more often than official Apple parts. What does that result in? More trips to the shop to get it repaired and more money spent. If a high-street retailer charges as little as £40 to replace an iPhone 6s screen, say, you should start questioning how that's possible.

Smooth repair in 5 steps

Once you have chosen a repairer, a small preparation will ensure a smooth repair. Because if you go directly to a repair counter in a store, there is a good chance that it is not your turn. And maybe they don't have the right part in stock. Follow our step-by-step plan to prevent such disappointments.

Make a repair appointment in advance.
This is possible with all repairers, usually via the website. Time is then reserved for you and it often shortens the repair time to an hour, or even shorter.

Ask the store if the correct part is in stock.
If not, the part can be ordered for you. Please note that some parts are available in different colors to match the rest of the smartphone.

Make a backup copy of your telephone before returning it.

  • Back up your tablet
  • Make a backup copy of your smartphone

A major advantage of a repair in the store is that usually the data on the device is not deleted.
And that you can immediately use the device again. A disadvantage is that the repairer can access all your data on the phone during the repair. If you are committed to your privacy, delete all data on the phone before handing in, naturally after you have made a backup. Do not forget  to remove the memory card from the phone if it is inserted.

This is how you delete your smartphone or tablet
Make sure you have the password for your Apple or Google account , as this is sometimes necessary during the repair. Your security code for the lock screen may also be required. Do not give all this type of login data to the repairman. Enter your passwords and PIN codes yourself on the phone. That is why it is wise to stay close to the repair desk.

Tips for using your battery for longer

The battery of your smartphone determines how long you can use your smartphone in succession without charging it. For some people this is 3 days, for others only a few minutes. To ensure that you can do as long as possible with the battery from your device, we at Fixers list a number of tips below to help you get the most out of your smartphone battery. We start with some general tips that apply to most phones. Then we give a number of tips specifically for iOS and Android.
Read more: redmi service center in bangalore

GENERAL TIPS
Tip 1 | Monitor your usage
It is important that you know what the problem is when you suffer from a malfunctioning battery. Therefore, first check the battery usage in your phone before you take drastic measures. It may be enough to remove one app from your phone to double (again) your battery life.

Tip 2 | Turn off WiFi
If you are not using WiFi, switch off the connection. Your phone will not continue to search for connections. This saves your telephone battery.

Tip 3 | Turn off automatic e-mail synchronization
When you receive your e-mail on your smartphone, your phone regularly checks for e-mail. It takes a battery to check this every time. Fortunately, you can switch off that your phone does not automatically check for mail. Please note, you will have to check manually whether there is e-mail!

Tip 4 | Turn off GPS
GPS ensures that your phone knows exactly where it is located. Handy for when you use your phone for navigation, less handy when you want to save battery. Therefore always switch GPS off when you are not using it.

Tip 5 | Decrease the brightness of your screen
A very effective way to save battery power is to lower the brightness of your screen. The lower the brightness, the less battery your screen consumes when it is on. Your screen is often one of the largest energy consumers; lowering the brightness can save a lot of batteries.

Tip 6 | Use your phone less
Even better than lowering the brightness of your phone is using your phone less. By having your phone turned on less, your phone uses less energy to make the screen work, but it also doesn't have to calculate how the phone should respond to you.

Tip 7 | Turn off your Bluetooth
Bluetooth used to be widely used to send files between two phones, nowadays it is almost only used in car kits and similar setups. Just like WiFi, Bluetooth constantly searches for a connection. It is therefore best to switch off your Bluetooth when you are not using it.

Tip 8 | Never drain your battery completely
A lithium-ion battery (the standard type of battery for new smartphones) can be damaged if you drain it completely. It is therefore better to charge your phone before it is empty. You can also switch off your phone before it is completely empty and then connect it later when you are not near a charger.

Tip 9 | Do not put your telephone in the sun
It is not good for your phone's battery if you leave it in the sun or in other hot environments. The battery can then inflate and the quality of the battery will decrease.

Tip 10 Charge your battery properly
It is important that you properly charge your battery. Do not just charge it for 3%. Every time you charge your battery, it will wear a little and your phone will charge 3% more often than not. Therefore always try to charge your battery to 100%.

Tip 11 Check your charger
Does your phone heat up during charging and are you not using the original charger? Your charger will then probably make your battery less effective. Therefore always ensure that you have the correct battery.

Tip 12 | Reset your phone
Resetting your phone can make your phone last a lot longer. Background processes are completely removed, just like your apps, contacts and other data. So make a backup before you reset your phone, otherwise you will lose everything.

Tip 13 | Do not use your phone if you want to charge quickly
With the latest Lithium-ion batteries, it is not a problem if you use your phone during charging, but this does cause your phone to charge less quickly. So if you want to charge your phone quickly, do not use it while charging.

Tip 14 | Charges at least 10%
If you have attached your phone to the charger, it is best not to remove the charger from the phone until you have charged 10%. Less charging can cause damage to your battery.

Tip 15 | Use a power bank
Not really a solution to improve the battery of your phone, but the use of a power bank is useful to provide your phone with longer power. A power bank is a kind of USB stick that you can connect to your telephone via a USB cable. Your phone will then charge without you needing a real power outlet.

Tip 16 | Turn on airplane mode
Are you using your smartphone (so you cannot turn it off completely), but do you not need internet and you do not need to be able to receive calls or receive text messages? Then set your phone to airplane mode. This saves a lot of battery power because the phone does not have to make connections. You can also use WiFi in airplane mode, so you don't have to live without internet when your phone is in airplane mode.

Tip 17 | Turn off your vibrate function
Making noise costs less battery than making your phone vibrate. It is therefore better not to set your phone to vibrate, but to set it to sound. Of course the silent function is best, but then you will not hear or feel when you receive a message.

Tip 18 | Use a static background
Moving backgrounds can be very beautiful or funny, but also consume a lot of battery. Therefore choose a static (non-moving) background. Even better than a normal static background is a black background. Black pixels do not cost as much energy as colored pixels.

Tip 19 | Set a screen lock time
Most screens lock after a few seconds or a minute or so, so the phones save battery. Have you not set a screen lock? Then do this to save battery. The lower the locking time, the more battery you can save.

Tip 20 | Quit apps completely
A good way to save battery (especially on Android) is to close apps completely. Do this by wiping away apps in your multitask window. You then close apps completely so that they no longer use a battery in the background.

Tip 21 | Empty your cache
In the Cache memory of your phone, apps remain on for a little longer than in your multitask menu. On Android you can empty the cache of an app by going to apps in the settings and there you can empty the cache per app. With iOS, you do this by removing the app from your phone and reinstalling it (note, emptying your cache, you will lose stored things such as high scores and files! See if you can back up certain data) ).

IOS
iPhones and iPad run on iOS. Do you have an iPhone or iPad and the battery of this device is no longer good? Then follow the following tips, especially for iOS.

Apple tip 1 | Don't let apps refresh automatically
Apps automatically refresh in the background with iOS, turn this off to save battery. You do this in settings -> general -> fresh apps in the background. Turn the function off completely or choose which apps you want to turn off.

Apple tip 2 | Disable suggested apps
Since iOS 8.0 you can get apps recommended by Apple based on your location and other issues. However, this function does cost a battery and therefore it is better to switch it off if you want to save battery. Do this by going to General -> Handoff and suggested apps in your settings and deselect my apps and app store.

Apple tip 3 | Turn off the handoff
In the same menu as the previous tip you can also turn Handoff off. This disables the ability to interact between your iPhone and your Macbook.

Apple tip 4 | Find out which apps use a lot
Since iOS 8 it is possible to gain insight into which apps use a lot of battery. To do this, go to settings -> general -> consumption -> battery consumption

Apple tip 5 | Turn off the equalizer
Do not use the built-in equalizer in the standard music app. Playing music costs more battery when you have switched off the equalizer. This can be at the expense of quality, but most people probably won't even notice it.

Apple tip 6 | Switch off AirDrop
AirDrop is Apple's wireless service that allows you to easily send files to other devices. If you do not use this, it is better to switch this off. You do this by swiping the control panel upwards from the bottom of the screen. Then choose AirDrop and switch off the service.

Apple tip 7 | Do not upload photos to iCloud automatically
In settings -> photos and camera -> my photo stream you can choose not to upload your photos to your iCloud account automatically. This saves battery because your iPhone does not need to go on the internet unnecessarily.

Apple tip 8 | Do not send data to Apple
Apple automatically collects information about your iPhone about how it works and what problems it does. These diagnoses are automatically sent to Apple unless you specify otherwise. You can do this by following the following steps: settings -> privacy -> diagnosis and use -> do not send.

20 Sure Shot Tips To Be Successful In Cell Phone Repair Business

1. Location

Location is one of the most important aspects of a business to be successful. It can decide how successful your business will be in the future. Location of your service center should be in such a manner that it is easily accessible to both residential and office going people. If you offer pick-up and drop facilities, then you may not need to fulfil the earlier condition as far as your old and trusting clientele is concerned, but you definitely require a good location to attract new customers. An ideal location will be economical, spacious and will draw the maximum number of people.

2. Skilled Technicians

Getting skilled and experienced technicians is a very difficult task for people in this business. There is rampant ‘job hopping’ trend among junior technicians which sometimes leads to a huge burden on the owner/s running the cell phone repair business at regular intervals.

It is, therefore, necessary to always have some extra technicians on hand to avoid going into such crises. There ought to be a balanced ratio of senior and junior technicians. It is also important to groom junior technicians faster so that they are ready to handle tough and complicated jobs as well.

A good technician will also help increase the productivity of the whole service center and finish the jobs faster and more accurately than others.

The Essential Guide To Mobile Training Strategy Success

Did companies ever wonder why their offices needed computers? Probably.

In fact, the president of IBM himself shared a dumbfounding prediction that there would be “a world market for maybe five computers” back in 1943.

But soon enough the computer was unmasked, not as an expensive competitive advantage, but rather as a necessary source of competitive parity. As a means of survival. In the 21st century, it’s nearly impossible to find a company that doesn’t embrace this tech as a daily business tool.

Today we find ourselves at a similar tipping point in mobile training strategy. The question is no longer “Why should we embrace mobile training?”, but rather “How can we optimize our it to achieve our training objectives?”

Statistics for 2017 have revealed that up to 91% of minutes spent on the Internet are on mobile devices. This is in the context of an increasingly fast-paced and high-pressure environment where people must access information on the move. So it’s probably no surprise that adults are turning to their mobile devices not only for communication and eCommerce, but also to learn.

Now, we know what you might be thinking. You’re thinking, “Yikes! Doesn’t mobile training mean ‘mobile training app development’, and ‘specialized technology’, and all sorts of other tricky, advanced things you know little to nothing about?”

Well sure, mobile training courses require certain technologies. But the good news is, it’s all much easier than you would think. Actually, developing a successful mobile training strategy can be (almost) as simple as saying your A to Z’s.

Interested? Then keep those eyes locked on your screen as we share some of the most essential and practical components of an effective mobile training center in Bangalore.

Assess The Fit
While almost any eLearning course has the potential to become an mLearning course, sometimes the shoe just doesn’t fit. So rather than wasting the glass slipper and diving head first into a mobile training strategy, start by assessing whether a mobile learning environment is suited to the needs of your audience.

Consider how comfortable your audience is when it comes to using mobile technology, whether they would benefit from a mobile training strategy that allows them to learn on the go, and what learning objectives they want to achieve.

People who are familiar with mobile functionality, have limited time available for learning, and need to achieve learning objectives associated with anything other than essay writing, usually make the best candidates for mobile training.

Build The Design
Imagine that you’ve just designed and launched a one-of-a-kind, groundbreaking mLearning course. The team is excited to see the product of all their careful planning, late nights at the office, and countless cups of coffee, come to fruition.

Less than 24 hours after launch the results are looking dismal. This is a brand new flexible learning opportunity, and nobody is even logging on. It’s an anticlimax of note.

Why? Because the course was designed for Android, but 90% of the audience is sales consultants who prefer to use iPhone – they like the “image” that the brand portrays. And now they’re having trouble viewing images and downloading most resources on the course.

This is why it’s so important to consider your mLearning design in the early stages of a mobile training strategy.

What kind of devices should your course be compatible with? Does the course use many images, videos or other graphics and will they still be effective on a small screen? Will the training require web access, or will you use mobile training apps that can operate offline?

Understanding the technicalities can be daunting. But getting in touch with a reputable Learning and Talent Development provider who offers user-friendly mobile training apps can shed a lot of light.

Create Engaging Content
A successful mobile training strategy recognizes that its audience consists of distracted, learn-as-you-go people who are seeking microlearning – that is, easy-to-digest units of information that are concise, focused, and interesting to engage with on a mobile device.

By using activities like interactive infographics, branching scenarios, quizzes, and stories, learners become more motivated to engage with the training materials. Of course, introducing competition, incentives, and even gamification (progression rules for moving to the ‘next level’ of the course) can also be effective ways to seduce the mind into new ways of thinking and interacting with information.

Just remember that no matter how fun and exciting the content, learners probably won’t engage if the learning resources and materials are not easy to navigate on a mobile device.

Drive Social Involvement
What is the purpose of phones if not for communication, right? And yet many digital learners feel secluded on their learning journey.

Part of a successful mobile training strategy is to recognize social platforms as a resource for motivating learners and connecting them with like-minded people. What’s more, peer interaction on relevant training topics can be a source of learning of its own.

So, build the drivers of social engagement, such as social media platforms, and even more formal collaborative learning spaces, into the mobile training design, making it convenient for distracted learners to connect and interact.

Ensure a Secure Platform
Would you post your credit card details on an open social media page? You’re obviously thinking “not a chance” and if you’re not, you should be!

Now perhaps mobile training courses don’t come to mind as something requiring protection. But mCourses are baskets of valuable (downloadable) learning content. More so, learners are exposing themselves every time they share a view, an experience, or receive feedback.

So, for the sake of the learners, and the sponsors of the mCourse, all precautions should be taken to secure the mobile learning platform through encryption and by encoding important information.

First Pilot With A Test Group
The funny thing about planning is that we almost never can understand the full scope of what we’re planning for – especially when it comes to technology. What this means is that we cannot account for all possibilities of what could go wrong.

So, included in your mobile training strategy should be a piloting component; a test stage before launching your mCourse, where objective people are nominated to work through the course content on a variety of devices.

For example, you may want to select someone to use a tablet, someone else to use a small-screened mobile phone, another person to use an Android device… you get the idea.

By piloting the mCourse on different devices, and using the feedback to iron out any issues, you can feel more confident that learners will be able to engage fully with the course content once launched.

Get Tracking
Perfection is an endless pursuit. But it’s a pursuit that your mobile training strategy must embrace. And one of the best ways to do this is through information.

Tracking can be built into your mobile training design to provide data on learner engagement and performance. Additional sources of information can be completion surveys, where learners provide feedback at the end of the training or post-training competency assessment.

Time To Jump On The Mobile Bandwagon
Okay, so you’re wondering why the A to Z has stopped at G? Well, because a successful mobile training strategy doesn’t require more than 7 simple yet smart guidelines.

Of course, you have the tips, but working with a premier Learning and Talent Development platform will help immensely. eFront brings SCORM to mobile, meaning that you can use your industry-standard SCORM course content files for mobile learning natively, as you’ve been used to doing on the web platform for years. For the full story on how SCORM works on eFront for Android, read our post about this exciting feature. Simple as that.

The mobile bandwagon is here, and mobile training trends aren’t vanishing any time soon. This doesn’t mean that your eLearning strategy is a fossil. On the contrary, your mobile training strategy should be a welcome complement to a broader strategy on digital learning.

Recovering data with your cell phone: tips for the best data recovery

data recovery, best data recovery for phones
A lot can go wrong when you try to retrieve data from a mobile phone. Whether you have lost that
data due to software problems, water damage or even if you have accidentally deleted your data.
Mobile phones use flash memory for storing data. Flash memory is an electronic (solid-state)
non-volatile storage medium that can be deleted and reprogrammed electronically.

How do people lose their data?

Earlier we devoted a blog post to the most common causes of data loss in the summer. A few of the
culprits: the sun, because cell phones simply do not like sunlight, water, no explanation needed, and
perhaps surprisingly, the toilet was responsible for 20 percent of the investigated smartphone damage
cases.

Prevent data loss

We recommend setting up an automatic backup for your phone so that you are sure that your data is
stored somewhere. A saying that we are convinced is: "If your data is not stored on at least three
devices, then they do not exist." Here are tips for backing up data.
Click here to find the best online laptop repair Bangalore

3-2-1 backup

An earlier blog post was about backing up, and here we summarize the strategy discussed there again.
The 3-2-1 backup rule is a smart backup method that assures you of data security for your cell phone.
That is how it works:
-3 stands for the number of copies that you should always have from your data.
-2 represents how many different types of storage media you should use for storing your data.
-1 represents the number of backups that you should keep at another location.
By adhering to this backup model you always maintain a high level of data security, because
prevention is, of course, better than cure.

Water damage

Regarding water damage in your cell phone, you must know that the entire rice story is a myth. Putting a wet cell phone in a bowl of dry rice does not help; the device must go to a
specialist as soon as possible for successful data recovery. If possible, remove the battery
immediately and never charge your cell phone. A common mistake of customers after trying the
rice method is that they start charging their phone while the inside is still wet, leading to electrolysis
and subsequently causing corrosion and short circuit.
All this can seriously damage your phone that repair and data recovery are no longer possible.
What water damage means is that your device must be professionally cleaned as quickly as possible.

If the damage has already been done: who can restore your data?

Devices with water damage can never be completely made and will sooner or later fail because
corrosion still occurs on the inside, no matter how well you have cleaned the device. Data loss
with such a device is only a matter of time.

Our advice for the best data recovery is to contact a data recovery company that works closely
with the manufacturer of your cell phone, such as Ontrack Data Recovery. Whatever device you have, you want to be sure that the data recovery company is
approved by the manufacturer to perform repairs and that they guarantee data security. With
companies that are not recognized by your manufacturer, you run the risk of not treating your
phone properly or causing more damage due to lack of experience and knowledge.

Repair your iPhone yourself: the 5 most important questions answered

If your iPhone breaks down you can do two things: have it repaired or get to work yourself. Which repairs are the most popular?
Test: how easy is it to repair a screen?
How do you discover what's broken?
What can go wrong?
What about warranty?
Repair iPhone yourself

1. These repairs are carried out most often
The screen, the battery and the Dock Connector (the Lightning port including microphone) are by far the most frequently performed repairs. After all, a crack in your screen can just happen to you and a battery loses its capacity over time. However, according to Slaghekke, a broken Dock Connector can be prevented in many cases.

“The cheap charging cables and adapters that people use en masse are the culprits here. By not using the original Apple adapter and cable, the connector will break faster. ”Moreover, fake chargers are a fire hazard. "It happens more than once that a cable or adapter causes an explosion or suddenly catches fire while the iPhone is connected to it."

By far the most difficult repair that people can do themselves is to replace the back of the iPhone, with all models from the iPhone 5. If you want to do this properly, then everything must be removed and placed again on the back. So a lot of work. Also, not all repairs are suitable for carrying out yourself, such as motherboard repairs. If you do something wrong with these projects, the costs can rise enormously.

2. iPhoned repairs a screen itself
To put it to the test I replace a screen of an iPhone 6 myself. In front of my nose I have the broken iPhone, a new pre-assembled screen, a repair kit and a magnetic screw mat. I make it a little easier with the pre-assembled screen, so I don't have to transfer parts like the ear speaker and front camera separately. These are already in the new screen. Armed with an instructional video I get started.

The inside of the iPhone 6 can be seen on the screw mat, so that I can keep all screws in the same place where they come from. With some logical thinking you put every screw in the right place to prevent you from having a screw after the repair.

A mistake is in a small corner and preparing and focusing yourself is essential. Getting the small screws out in no time. Replacing is another story: the smaller the screw, the worse my hands shake when I want to get it on the screwdriver. Priegelwerk therefore.

With rewinding and pausing the video a few times I get the job done within 20 minutes. Time to test. The iPhone turns on, the touchscreen works and the cameras and microphone also work as they should. Succeeded!

Replacing your iPhone screen repair yourself in this way is not difficult. Although there is a big 'but' attached to it: be sharp and pay attention. Without a manual you quickly go wrong and without a structure you will probably get stuck halfway. Is it fun? Yes, it gives a feeling of pride when you single-handedly bring an iPhone back to life. If you like tinkering or tinkering a bit, then it is already very interesting.

Now replacing a screen is one of the easiest repairs to be done. But once you have been working on the inside of the telephone, you will discover that it is actually very logical. Parts are clearly visible and with the help of a (tear-down) video you quickly learn to recognize the individual parts.

Repair iPhone yourself

3. This is how you discover what's broken
You repair an iPhone fairly easily, but how do you recognize what exactly is broken? And how do you know which parts and accessories you need to order to make it? A broken screen or a phone that no longer vibrates are examples of defects that you will automatically notice. If the iPhone does not work properly, but you do not know exactly why it is, it is a different story. Without real repair knowledge, it is unfortunately still difficult in such cases to discover for yourself what needs to be replaced.

It can help to read manuals from repair sites or watch instructional videos and tear-downs. Often it also explains what the cause of a certain defect can be. To be sure, it is useful to double check it. “With FixjeiPhone, a chat is open all day. Now people are still dependent on it. We are building a question model that automatically leads people to the correct answer. Then they immediately know what to order, "says Slaghekke. Another option is the many Apple forums in which people help each other solve problems with their Apple equipment.

4. What can go wrong
Taking the screwdriver into your own hands is no guarantee of success. "Of course it can always go wrong, a repair is never without risk," says repair specialist Davey Groothedde. He repairs around 4000 devices a year. “Two or three of them will break. It is always possible, but it hardly ever happens, even when people repair it themselves. "

To prevent problems during a repair, it is important to work in a calm and structured manner. A mistake does not necessarily mean that the entire repair has to be repeated or failed. Even if something turns out not to work afterwards, according to Groothedde it is in many cases a matter of re-clicking a certain connector or relocating a wire.

Is it completely wrong or do you not dare to restore it? Then it is better to send the iPhone for repair. This also applies if something after replacement still does not work. A broken WiFi antenna can also be caused by a broken chip on the motherboard. Due to the level of difficulty and the high risk of fatal errors, repairs to the motherboard should not be carried out yourself.

Repair iPhone yourself

5. Repairs and warranty
Apple gives a one-year warranty on every iPhone. If your phone breaks down within that year and you or an external party repair the iPhone, your warranty will be voided. FixjeiPhone therefore notices that devices for which parts are ordered are often already out of warranty.

If you have a new iPhone, think carefully about what to do if something goes wrong. We recommend that you first contact Apple Support to see what the options are. Sometimes Apple has special repair programs that also apply to devices out of warranty. If this is not the case, then you can choose to get started yourself, although this does break the Apple warranty. This can come in handy if you do not live near an Apple store or certified Apple technician. If you send your iPhone to Apple, it can sometimes take a while until it is sent back.

Order your parts to repair your iPhone yourself, then look carefully where you do that. Web shops such as iFixit and FixjeiPhone provide a guarantee, but always check this in advance. These two repair services both sell sets of screwdrivers and other tools to get started yourself. If you prefer to look for parts directly from China, you do not have to rely on a guarantee. Moreover, in that case it is questionable whether the quality is as good as is claimed, so that cheap quickly becomes expensive..

Just to be clear: there are a few things you can do yourself to fix the phone if it has fallen into the water. if it still doesn't help then take it to a mobile phone repair Bangalore.

First, turn it off immediately. Is it already off? Keep it like that. If the battery is removable, remove it from the phone. This way you reduce the chance of a short circuit, which is disastrous for your phone. Also, do not try to dry it with a hair dryer or by placing it on a stove or in the sun. The electronics break down there. As mentioned, rice helps to remove moisture from the phone, but that does not solve the problem definitively. You can try to vacuum dry the phone with a vacuum cleaner. Wait a few days and then turn it on again.

How should you free Android memory?

Everyone has had to deal with it, your phone is full! Certainly the cheaper Android phones have less storage space available, making the memory quickly full. But how do you get rid of this report? How should you free Android memory?

1. Empty the cache memory

Before you start something, we recommend first emptying the cache memory. Buffer files (such as cookies in the browser, recently opened websites, etc.) are stored within the cache memory and are stored temporarily to start the app or website more quickly. Therefore, removing cache memory can not hurt; however, it may cause the apps to start slower the first time. With the Android memory release cache memory is a good first step to get a lot of extra space. We recommend, however, to repeat this with some regularity; After all, the cache memory will fill up over time.

CCleaner: To remove the cache memory go to ' Settings> Apps> Application management> [select app]> Empty cache'. But you can also do this faster with a program that treats multiple apps simultaneously. A nice app is for example CCleaner. This app analyzes all the cache memory with which you get back the storage memory extra quickly.

2. Back up your photos and videos

If you still suffer from a full phone after emptying the cache memory, it is time to back up the photos and / or videos. You do not always view all photos, but do not want to discard everything right away. Therefore, make a selection of photos that you can back up on the computer and which you keep on the phone. You can also look at a good cloud solution  so that you can consult the photos online, without having them physically on the phone. Click here for the 5 best Cloud Apps.

WeTransferTo back up the photos, you can simply transfer pictures from the phone to the computer with the USB cable. But you can also use apps like WeTransfer. This app can, just as on the computer, mail up to 10GB of photos. This is very simple: you select the photos, enter an email address and you receive the download link to your photos in the mail. To quickly select multiple photos, tap once on the first photo and double on the last photo and then all intermediate photos will be selected.

3. Move all data to the SD card

Do you know where your files are saved by default? If it is possible for your phone, we recommend storing everything on the SD card. Expandable memory is no longer self-evident on Android devices; some phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge ) no longer have this option. Instead, these smartphones have more and extra fast internal storage.

If the phone does have a port for an SD card, we recommend buying a memory card. Go when choosing an SD cardfor a so quick to recognize potential card is the number in the circle on the front. We recommend to go at least for a class 6 or higher. This way you can free Android memory, without it taking a long time to load the (large) files. Click here for our SD cards.

With some phones you then have to indicate separately that you use an SD card as the standard storage method of the photos. This can be done via ' Camera> Settings> Storage location> Memory card '. Then there is a chance that you still have files on the phone memory, which you obviously want on the SD card. Go to ' My Files> [choose type of file]> three dots at the top right> Select> select all photos with the box at the top left> Move> SD card'.

  • Files to SD card on new devices:
  • Files to SD card on older devices:

You can also partially place apps on the SD card. Go to ' Settings> Apps> Application management> [select app]> Move to SD card' . Note: in this case you only put part of the app on the SD card, since an app must be on the phone to boot properly. But every bit helps!

4. No SD card? No problem!

Even if your phone does not support an SD card, you can still free up memory with handy accessories. SanDisk has released the Dual Drive and the Connect especially for a quick backup. The Dual Drive is best compared with a USB stick for the smartphone. The stick comes with 16GB of storage and has a micro USB connection in addition to the standard USB connection. This allows you to simply click the stick under the phone and back up files.

But there is also a wireless solution to always have memory at hand. The SanDisk Connect is a small NAS server the size of a USB stick that can be connected to a computer or smartphone (iOS and Android). You connect the device via the Wi-Fi network of the Connect to your phone or computer and you can get started right away! These files can be found in the app, can be played directly and even be shared via e-mail or WhatsApp. You just put the stick in your bag and you always have all the files with you. And to clean up your smartphone there is an extra advantage: when you put photos on the stick, you can choose to delete these files directly from your own device. The stick is the only thing you need.

5. Save up WhatsApp

WhatsApp is a wonderful program to send free text messages. But the messaging service is also used to send large numbers of photos and videos. Especially in the WhatsApp groups, a lot of nonsense pictures and movies are shared. You can choose not to download these photos and videos automatically. Go to ' WhatsApp> 3 dots at the top right> Settings> Chats and calls> Media autom. download> turn everything off ' . Then you have control over which media you download and view.

When you are in a chat that you know many photos are shared, we recommend to delete the old photos and videos. Go to ' WhatsApp> [chat where a lot is shared]>  3 dots at the top right> Media in Group> Keep images pressed> Trash' .

6. Remove the apps that you do not use

Perhaps this tip is obvious, but do you use all the apps you have on the phone? Many people have different versions of many apps, while they only use one. It's time to be critical and remove apps from time to time! This can be done through the settings, but also via the Google Play Store. Go to ' Play Store> 3 dashes top left> My apps and games> Select app> Delete .

Via the Application Management you can also remove apps, and immediately see how much memory the app will use. Go to ' Settings> Apps> Application management' . To remove an app, tap a program and press ' Clear data ' and then ' Delete '.

7. Turn off automatic updates

To keep more control over what's on the phone, you can also turn off automatic software updates from apps. Then your memory no longer runs unnoticed with new versions of your programs. Go to  'Google Play> 3 dashes top left> Settings> Automatically update apps> Do not update apps automatically' .

8. Disable apps

Unfortunately, not all apps can be discarded. Some apps that you hardly use are embedded in the software. You can disable these apps to prevent them from starting in the background. Then this app will also no longer appear in the cache memory. To disable apps, go to Settings> Apps> Application manager> All> [tap an app]> Remove updates> Forced Stop> Disable . Also check " Show notifications" if you no longer want to receive notifications of updates.

Note: this is not recommended with every app. Some programs are necessary to keep Android running. If you do not know what an app is for, you should not turn it off. This certainly applies to the apps with a green Android icon (the system programs).

If you do not know what an app is for, find it first before you turn it off. Apps like Samsung Print Service Plug In, Chat-On, S-Voice, Samsung Push Service, Samsung GO, and apps like Flipboard can  be turned off without any problems.

9. Empty the system log files

If you have tried all of the above and still have a (too) full phone, you can also look deeper into the system. With Samsung phones you can free Android memory by removing the so-called Dumpstate / Logcat files. These are error logs that are stored in the internal memory when, for example, an app crashes.

To delete these files go to Phone and key in the code  * # 9900 # . At that moment the secret SysDump menu appears. Then press the second button ' Delete Dumpstate / Logcat'. Then restart the phone and you suddenly have a lot more space on the phone!
